Overview

Develop a key visual for the School of Creative Media’s new MA programme launch, anchored by the symposium:

“Symposium on Influencer Cultures: From Generating Memes to Preserving Culture in Hong Kong.”

The visual should introduce the programme through the shared visual language of Hong Kong’s contemporary internet and street cultures. It should reflect how influence moves between online communities, meme-making, popular culture, public space, and the preservation of local identity. The overall direction should feel intellectually engaging while remaining visually immediate, youthful, and rooted in Hong Kong.

Creative Concept

The key visual brings together the familiar textures and formats of Hong Kong street culture with the digital circulation of influencer content. It frames the Creative Media Centre (CMC) not only as a university building, but also as a recognisable cultural landmark and a platform where creative ideas, online trends, and local stories converge.

By reinterpreting the CMC’s distinctive architectural form within a street-poster-inspired composition, the design creates a dialogue between institutional learning, urban culture, and the fast-moving visual world of social media.

Artwork Approach

Adopt a distinctly Hong Kong–cool aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the city’s layered street-poster culture, public notice boards, pasted advertisements, graphic stickers, and digitally circulated meme formats. The artwork should feature a stylised interpretation of the Creative Media Centre (CMC) architecture as a central visual element or graphic silhouette. The composition can be built through layered street posters, typographic fragments, stickers, and collage-inspired details to capture the energy of Hong Kong’s streets and online communities. By balancing analogue urban textures with contemporary digital references, the visual should reflect the journey from meme generation to cultural preservation. Bold typography and an editorial-style layout should create a current, experimental, and academically appropriate look for a creative-media symposium.

Led the post-production of the event highlight video, including video editing, subtitle creation and integration, and motion graphic design.
